Breaking the gap with Google Gears

The most of the applications which were limited to desktop are made available online now.Like google docs. , picasa for playing with images. So what does this mean,do we need to leave all the applications on desktop and starting using the online versions.Well both of them have their own pros and cons.

Desktop Applications
  • More features to manipulate the data
  • Easily accessable
  • Secure ,only accessable to oneself.
Online versions
  • Easy to share
  • Can be viewed and modified from any machine.(Machine independent).
  • No issues with backup and data loss.
The pros of desktop applications are cons to online versions and vice versa. So how do we break the barrier. Can we come with a solution were we can use both the versions together and come up with the unique solution.

Google Gears is a application where one can offload the data from a website to a local server and work on the data locally and finally the modified data can be uploaded and synched with the actual server data.Google is providing this feature with Google Reader , through which we can download the feeds locally ,read through them.Google claims this feature is very useful when we don't have a reliable internet connection. But I feel this feature can also be used to bridge the gap between the online and desktop version of applications.Lets see how it can be done.

Lets take the example of Excel.Consider online version of Excel is available too.Now using google gears using a single click we should be able to offload the content to a local desktop machine.Considering Excel is installed on local machine. We can play with the content , modify it and when finally done with it,with a single click we should be able to upload the data back to the server. With this we have all the advantages , we were able to locally use the full featured Excel to modify the content, use the online version to take care of sharing and backup issues.

This feature can also be extended to get the complete OS state. If I am using a desktop at my home and my operating system can give me its state information, then I can upload that data to a server.I can go to office and download the server state on office machine and start working from where I stopped at home.

That would be a ideal win considering the disadvantages of present desktop operating systems and the Web operating systems.

Art of War

What makes a person more talented while the other a loser, what stops a average person to be a winner these are the questions one encounters in all faces of life.

God is THE BEST architect. No one knows why the world exist.Who created it.Why do we exist in this world. And what is life.we go through the complete cycle of life. Not knowing what is the meaning of its existence.

This is the same state we are in right now.I can't answer any of those above questions,so i go ahead in living my life. The only thing which we are in control of is our life.God creates some as in born champions, some average and some stupid. Its a beautiful balance maintained by God.So if I am stupid ,I ask why is it I am a stupid, why wasn't I a champion. The easy one to blame is God :).

Lets take a scenario.Where a champion , a average and a stupid is given a sword each which are of same quality.Three of them are asked to fight with 3 average persons. The champion wins over his apponent easily while the average may or may not win and the stupid loses it for sure. What made the champion win and stupid loose. All of them were given same swords , all of them were to fight with same level apponents. This is how our life is , when we enter the battelfield called life we all have swords in terms of strengths and we all face the apponents which is world. But at the end of the day some of them are successful and some or not.

So everyone has a sword ,its up to us how to use it.The one who uses it best to his strengths is the champion. So here I redefine the definition of champion , average and a stupid.A champion is a person who improves his strengths in battelfield irrespective of whether he wins or not.A average person is one who just plays to his strengths.A stupid person is one who loses his strengths(even if he wins).

We need to look at our swords (strengths) .Need to identify the sharpest edges and weakest ones.We have to make sure that the sharpest ones remain sharper and we need to concentrate on the weaker edges and improve them one after the other.

In several instances I have been as a stupid and a average person.I am learning atleast to be at average consistantly.

Worst day of Indian Cricket

Indian loss to Srilanka in the final group match has knocked out India from the World cup.Its the worst thing a India cricket fan would expect of the team. What are the reasons for this poor performance of the team.Well there are many.

Cricket is the main sport in India.Almost every Indian kid plays cricket,it is involved in the life's of almost every Indian. So naturally when so many people are around it ,so is the craze for the game and so is the money involved in it.And when there is money,in comes all the bad elements of the world.

A normal kid who grows up in the streets playing cricket and who slowly emerges to be a good player, makes his way into district level cricket, state level cricket and then finally the big stage of International Cricket.A cricketer to make this long journey, goes through many hurdles of bribing the selectors at district level and ranji level. And there is hardly any public attention over him, before he makes his way into the International cricket. And during this journey he concentrates a lot on his cricketing skills.

Once the player makes it to the Big stage,he performes and performs really well,as this was his dream since childhood .But the world around him suddenly changes,he is not just a cricketer anymore,he is god to 1 billion people.Where ever he goes he has public attention ,now cricket is not the only thing he has to concentrates on.He will be concentrating on his public image , being a brand ambassdor for major brands, his banking accounts, being a celebrity,.................................

So naturally comes down the performance of the player for whom cricket was his life before , now it becomes only a part of his life.He is no more consistent,he is no more eager to improve his skills,He will just play to keep his position safe in the team. This is the stage of all the players in our Indian Cricket team.

We cannot change the interest people have for cricket,we cannot bring down the money involved in the game,so what is it that can be done to improve the quality of cricket in India.

Well the change has to come from the BCCI.The largest Sporting body on Planet Earth. With the huge funds BCCI has , it can setup a academy in each district of India. It can identify young talent at district level. And it can frequently organize and monitor the games at district level. And then instead of having ranji trophy, where all states meat each other. It can organize games between states in each zone and then select a team for each zone. And let those 4 zone teams play each other frequently.

In this approach , you finally have top 44 players of the nation playing against each other. In this way we build up a lot of latent, which puts lot of pressure on the players of International cricket team. For all that to happen, there should not be any bribe involved in the approach.Players should be picked only based on talent and not on recomendations of the politicans or by bribe.

But in reality , BCCI will not think anything other than earning money. Its not going to change any process,at the most it will remove the poor coach Greg Chappell,it will remove some poor performers from the team, thats the max its going to do.(BCCI started a t.v channel to increase its income)

Again India will play a tournament at home ground , it will perform better in that and again the poor fans will start following the game in a hope that India is coming back strong. Its a cycle which is never going to change.

Business Man's Cricket.

It was a game played between 11 of Indian business men and 11 of serious Bangladesh players who are dedicated to cricket and eager for a win.

In time Indian cricketers have been concentrating a lot on adds , money and celebrity status.Eventually forgetting what they are made up for.We were not even able to give a proper fight to the Bangladesh in our opener in the world cup.

Inconsistency comes when a player is not dedicated for the team.Indian players are so carried away by all other things around them that by the end of the day, cricket is not the main part of their life. When you give a player like Shewag innumerable chances even when he fails consistently,it kind of builds a comfort zone for other players that its ok not to perform for a short while. And eventually players become inconsistent in their approach and game.

Its a bad day for Indian cricket and all of its fans. But for Indian cricket team its just a day of cricket, what matters to them at the end of the day is their huge paychecks.

What can you ask more

If you ask yourselves who wins the world cup this time.Australia might have been the answer 1 month back, but now it can be any one of the top 8 ODI teams.Heres my ranking for the teams who might come out as the leaders at the end of the day.

1.Australia
Strengths -- Great talent,Ponting,Hussey,McGrath......................
Weekness -- Five straight losses before world cup

They will hit back and hit back very hard.Even with the lack of Symonds and Lee,they are still equipped with best talent in the world.

2.SouthAfrica
Strengths -- No.1 ODI side at present,Fighting ability,Pollock,Nthini,Smith...............
Weekness -- Not so reliable batting line up.

They should have won world cup twice till now. They always enter the world cup being favourets to win it.But they find it hard to go past the semis.Their is bowling line up is in great form and on pictches like WestIndies thats going to be a great weapon to have.

3.West Indies
Strengths -- Home Ground,Batting line up,Gayle,sarwan,lara........
Weekness -- Bowling line up,Inconsistent batting

They certainly carry a lot of advantage being a hosting nation. They have suprised a lot in the recent times,by winning the ICC Champions trophy 3 years back. If they want to win a world cup then its all up to the big guns Gayle, Lara and other batting line up.

4.NewZeland
Strengths -- Confidence,Fighting ability,vettori,bond.........
Weekness -- No real stars in batting line up,injury to oram

They have the highest confidence compared to all teams and why not ,they have beaten the world champions thrice in a row.But the problem is with batting line up,which does not list any great batsman ,but they do have lot of allrounders. They play key role in the success of NewZeland.

5.India
Strengths -- Batting line,Yuvraj,Sachin,Ganguly..........
Weekness -- Bowling lineup, form of key players

They hold most of the records for batting line up,their batsman have the best numbers interms of runs. But its all upto how their batsman click and they hold the key.Bowling is weekness , but the great batsman can make it up with their batting.

6.SriLanka
Strengths -- Batting and Bowling,Vaas,Jayasurya........
Weekness -- Inconsistency, bowling line up at times

They are the suprise package always. They dont have extraordinay talent ,but they can be a great team on their day. They have some key players like jayasurya , murali, vaas, jayawardane .Performance of these players will hold the key to their success.

7.Pakistan
Strengths -- Batting line up,Inzamam,yousuf........
Weekness -- Inconsistency,feilding.

They can be the most harsh apponent on their day.But they hardly continue their form for couple of matches. If they can improve their consistency and improve the feilding , no suprise in seeing them the world champions beating every one above in this list.

8.England
Strengths -- Confidence,Flintoff,Collingwood,Peiterson.....
Weekness -- lack of Experienced players,Bowling line up.

They are high on confidence right now with a try series win over Australia and Newzeland. They seriously lack experience in their side. They heavily depend on players like , Collingwood,Flintoff. You can't win world cup with couple of good players ,you got to have good team effort if u have beat the top teams. They do have chance ,if they can have other players in form.

Holiday in Goa

Dil chatha hai was the movie which introduced Goa to me,that was the destination which i was dreaming to go since then and finally came the time.

Well the plan was sudden,we decided to go Goa and got the bus tickets and were there at the bus stop on time by 6.30pm but to our bad luck we were waiting till 10p.m when we finally boarded the bus. That was a horrible journey which included one puncture and one change of bus at the Goa border. We finally reached Goa by 2p.m ,counting totally 16 hrs of journey. But finally we were there.

After a quick bath we were ready to explore Goa,we took a bus to Miramar beach. It was not a great beach to visit, but its very near compared to other beaches in Goa.So for people staying in Panji(Goa Bus stand) , you can visit this beach in spare time or in night after 10 to have cool breeze.

Then we came back from Miramar to Panji in a bus and then took a taxi to North Goa.Well Goa is divided into North Goa , South Goa.You can have one day trips to each places to cover the beaches in those areas. So coming back to the trip ,we went to Calangute beach, that was supposed to be the one of the best of beaches.Well i cant say it was great, but it was ok.It had huge crowd but to add to our luck there were mostly Indians. But the beach had water biking at a cost of 100 per head, para gliding over the sea and boating too.If you want to have some fun with water sport then North Goa can provide you that.

After the beautiful evening on the beach ,we had a long walk for about half n hour on the beach.By the time it was completely dark we settled ourselves for a candle light dinner on the beach with waves at just 50 meters from our table.Everything was perfect , candle light , perfect whether with slow a breeze and the beautiful sound of waves. What can you ask more. The dinner was long with lots of boozing and chatting. And then we went to check out the night life of Goa,on the way we found a disco, which was charging nominal 300 per head.Considering the good crowd which was going in , we gave a try.We all went in and had a great night,we danced for 2 hr.That was great day,we were on bed by 2,eagerly waiting for the sun rise.

We got up at 8 in the morning ,we booked the taxi to go for a trip of south Goa.We first went to the church Basilica of Bom Jesus where the body of St Francis Xavier is present. It was not a great time spending for us,so we completed that fast and went to the beach Polalam. Its the best blue water beach in Goa.It is 70 km from Goa so it took some time for us to reach this place,we had our lunch over there, and then had a long walk over the whole beach,to primarly check out the huge foreign crowd. It being a bit far from city, the place was filled mostly with foreigners, that was the time we really felt that we were in Goa.You get to see a lot foreign crowd sun bathing, playing or swimming. The water is very clear,so we went in and had fun for some time before we started to Coval beach.

We reached Coval beach by 5p.m,may be it was the right timing,we got to see a beautiful sunsetAs it was a sunday and this beach being a bit close to the city ,there was a huge crowd. We took a lot of snaps at the sunset.Water is clear here and you get to see a lot of coconut trees on the beach, overall its a very beautiful place to be.Thats the end of the second day, lets see whats in store for the last day.

Last day we booked a taxi to take a tour of North Goa.We started up with the Aguada jail. That was a great place to be.You get to see the sea from a great height ,You see a lots n lots of ships from that height and small islands. That was the place, where prisoners used to be kept,i feel you have to be a lucky prisoner to go there.Do not miss to visit this place,if you visit Goa.

We were then to Anjuna beach, where we just posed for some snaps and we made a quick move to Vagator beach. We spent a long time at that beach , playing beach volleyball , boozing and swimming.Thats a beautiful beach with lots of rocks on the shores. It also has black sand unlike all other beaches.

The gang was Bhaskar,Guru,Janardhan,Raghav, myself,Theja and Venkatesh. All in all it was a great trip and its a great place for a holiday.Plan everything well, better travel by train and 3 days would be a sufficient time to cover goa.

Guru not inspirational

Coming to "Guru",expectations were heavy for me as the movie was from Maniratnam and the story was of Diru Bhai Ambani, the legendry Business men from India.Ambani was a guy who started his career as a small employee in a petroleum company but later went on to become a head of Reliance Industries and worlds 113th richest person.
Movie runs the complete life story of Ambani, but was not successfull in being inspirational. Though credit goes to Abhishek bachan in handling the role of Guru,he adjusted himself very well to the role of a bussiness man with a look of 50 years of age and he was exceptional during times when he had to act as a man with paralysis stroke.Music of the movie is good, specially one song "Barso re".All in all its a good movie, you will be happy watching the story of Ambani , how he grew from no where to become a legendry bussiness man and the acting of Abhishek Bachan.
I have been a hard core fan of Maniratnam since i saw his movie "Nayagan" ,it has been my first movie since then and later follows movies like Godfather,Cast Away,Beautiful Mind.

web2.0 around the world and in india.

Many new web2.0 sites came into picture in 2006,some of them have created a revolution while some are struggling to survive.Sites like digg, youtube, flickr are some to name. All these websites involve the community around the world. But considering the talent and community in India, its bad to see that none of the major web2.0 sites emerged from India.
